1. Jkuat Missing Student Found Dead: Denzel Omondi Onyango's Tragic Journey
The JKUAT student, Omondi Onyango had been anxiously awaiting his graduation from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) on the 28th of June. However, what was supposed to be a joyous occasion turned into a nightmare when Denzel mysteriously disappeared on the 26th of June, amid the Gen Z protests.
For days, the family searched tirelessly for any trace of their beloved son, fearing the worst as each hour passed without news. Their fears were tragically confirmed when Denzel's lifeless body was discovered dumped in a quarry in the remote Mashinani area. The once hopeful anticipation of a graduation celebration has now been replaced by a somber mood of mourning and disbelief.
According to local reports, Denzel was allegedly abducted during the protests, a shocking turn of events that has left the community reeling. As investigations into his death continue, friends and relatives gather to remember Denzel's vibrant spirit and promising future, now tragically cut short.
"We want justice for Denzel," declared Minister Radak, his voice trembling with emotion. "No family should have to endure this kind of pain."
As the Omondi Onyango family prepares to lay their beloved son to rest, they cling to cherished memories of Denzel and the hope that his death will not be in vain.

2. JKUAT GEMA CHAIRPERSON, VICTOR MUNENE URGES REJECTION OF THE SG RECALL PETITION
In a statement addressing the controversy surrounding the recall petition against SG Timothy Gichangi Gitonga, JKUAT GEMA Chairperson Gachoki Victor Munene called for the petition's dismissal, citing it as malicious and unsubstantiated.
Munene emphasized that the petition, which he described as filled with fallacies and rumors, does not meet the procedural requirements outlined in the JKUSA constitution and standing orders. He urged the honorable speaker not to submit the petition to the house, highlighting that the EC had diligently verified Gitonga's credentials.
"I implore the August house to exercise due diligence and dismiss the petition, as even the mover contradicts himself. Let integrity prevail, and avoid voting on tribal lines and emotions," Munene stated.
Questions whose answers remain unravelled arises in SG's ability to perform as mandated in the Jkusa constitution
In his interview with the Grapevine Media , he stated the following "It is really laughable to see that people upto date are still in denial with the holder of the office. This is a sign of un-contentment from the EC who did their mandate with due diligence and found it that only one Timothy Gichangi Gitonga had met all the credentials to be the SG The petition to recall the SG is full of malice filled with fallacy, hearsay & rumours. And I'm more than sure that this is a witch-hunt It is contemptuous & dubious I wish to ask the honorable speaker to not submit the petition at the floor of the house because it has not meant threshold to be a petition as per the procedural provision of appendix 5 of the JKUSA constitution and part XVII of the JKUSA standing orders Moreso the claims & the charges on the charge sheet of the petition cannot be substantiated by the "purported mover" I wish to advise the mover to have prequisite knowledge on matters of the JKUSA constitution & Standing orders to avoid tabling motions or petitions based on rumours. In the event where the motion lands to the floor of the house I implore the August house to do due diligence and squash the petition bearing in mind even the mover is contradicting himself. Let this be a test of integrity and let people not vote on tribal lines and emotions but facts. Yours truly, Gachoki Victor Munene ~ JKUAT GEMA Chairperson

3. How Student Leaders Can Promote Transparency and Accountability in University Governance
In today’s rapidly evolving educational environment, transparency and accountability have become essential pillars for ensuring effective university governance. Student leaders, who often serve as the bridge between the student body and university administration, are in a unique position to promote these values. By fostering open communication, actively engaging in decision-making, and ensuring that student voices are heard, they can build a culture of trust and accountability. Here's how student leaders can take the lead in promoting transparency and accountability in their institutions.
1. Encourage Open Dialogue
One of the first steps in promoting transparency is to encourage open dialogue between students and university leaders. Student leaders should actively organize forums, town hall meetings, and feedback sessions where students can voice their concerns and ask questions directly. These events provide a platform for the administration to address key issues, ensuring that students feel informed and involved in university decisions.
**Tip for leaders:**Leverage digital tools like social media or virtual meeting platforms to make these sessions accessible to all students, including those who might be off-campus or unable to attend in person.
2. Advocate for Clear Communication on Policies
University policies can sometimes be complex and unclear. Student leaders can advocate for simplified, easy-to-understand versions of these policies. Whether it’s about tuition fees, academic policies, or campus facilities, ensuring that information is transparent helps eliminate confusion and build trust.
**Tip for leaders:**Create a student-friendly guide or infographics to explain policies or decisions made by the university. This not only educates but also empowers students to hold the administration accountable.
3. Ensure Budget Transparency
One key area where accountability is crucial is in the university’s financial decisions. Students often feel disconnected from how tuition fees or other financial resources are used. By advocating for budget transparency, student leaders can ensure that financial allocations prioritize student needs, such as campus improvements, academic resources, and mental health services.
**Tip for leaders:**Request regular budget updates from the administration and share them with the student body. You can also advocate for a student representative on the university’s budget committee to give students a voice in financial discussions.
4. Promote Accountability in Student Organizations
Transparency and accountability shouldn’t stop at the university administration. Student leaders also need to model these values within their own organizations. By maintaining clear records, being open about decision-making processes, and ensuring that funds allocated to student organizations are used responsibly, student leaders can set a strong example.
**Tip for leaders:**Hold regular internal audits of student organizations and share the results with members. Being open about the financial status and activities of student clubs fosters a culture of responsibility.
5. Engage in Participatory Decision-Making
Promoting transparency also involves ensuring that students are part of the decision-making process. Student leaders can push for participatory governance models where students are included in key university committees, such as those dealing with academic policy, campus services, and disciplinary actions. This gives students a direct role in shaping university decisions and promotes a more accountable leadership structure.
**Tip for leaders:**Survey students to understand their priorities and concerns, and bring those insights into your meetings with university administration. This ensures that your advocacy is based on the collective voice of the student body.
6. Utilize Technology for Information Sharing
In the digital age, technology offers numerous tools that can enhance transparency. Student leaders can use websites, newsletters, and social media platforms to regularly update the student body on important decisions, upcoming events, and initiatives. This level of communication ensures that all students are kept in the loop and have easy access to information.
**Tip for leaders:**Create a dedicated transparency page on your student union website where all important documents, decisions, and reports are posted. This central hub can serve as a one-stop resource for students seeking information..
Conclusion:
Promoting transparency and accountability in university governance is a shared responsibility, and student leaders play a vital role in making this happen. By encouraging open communication, advocating for clear policies, ensuring budget transparency, and fostering participatory decision-making, student leaders can create a more accountable, engaged, and empowered campus community. Ultimately, transparency builds trust, and with trust comes a stronger, more inclusive educational environment for all.
**Call to Action:**Are you a student leader looking to make a difference? Start small—organize a town hall meeting, advocate for more financial transparency, or ensure your own organization operates with accountability. These actions can have a lasting impact on your university community.
